We are thrilled to announce that Dr Jorge Goncalves has been presented with a prestigious 2020 Amazon Research Award (ARA), for his research project: ‘Integrated qualification test framework to measure crowd worker quality and assign or recommend heterogeneous tasks’.

Along with co-Principal Investigator (PI), Prof Vassilis Kostakos, Jorge will be investigating ways to integrate and streamline a range of pre-existing online tests, designed to determine the attributes of workers (eg, personality or skill) into a coherent system that might be able to predict the performance of workers – through test outcomes – and assign or recommend them to appropriate tasks. This research holds significant potential to impact the areas of crowdsourcing and data quality.

With a record-high number of submissions, research proposals were reviewed for their quality of scientific content, creativity, and the potential for impact on the research community and society in general. As an award recipient, along with funding, Jorge will now have access to a wide range of Amazon’s public datasets, as well as AWS AI/ML, and a dedicated Amazon research contact.

We would like to congratulate Jorge and Vassilis on this outstanding opportunity.
