HCI researchers nominated for Best Paper Award at IEEE ISMAR 2020

We are pleased to announce that HCI researchers Difeng Yu, Qiushi Zhou, Joshua Newn, Tilman Dingler, Eduardo Velloso, and Jorge Goncalves have received a Best Paper award nomination at the IEEE International Symposium on Mixed and Augmented Reality (ISMAR 2020).

IEEE ISMAR 2020 is a CORE A* rated, premier conference for Augmented Reality (AR) and Mixed Reality (MR), which explores the advances in commercial and research activities related to AR, MR, and Virtual Reality (VR). The nominated paper is titled ‘Fully-Occluded Target Selection in Virtual Reality’ and has been published in a special issue of the IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics.

The paper presents a design space and a set of techniques for fully-occluded target selection in VR. The results show how factors, such as occlusion layers, target depths, object densities, and the estimation of target locations can affect technique performance. The work has important implications for the design of future VR systems that offer selections for fully-occluded targets.
