Professor Michael Davern, CPA holds the Chair of Accounting and Business Information Systems in the Faculty of Business and Economics at The University of Melbourne, and is also honorary Professor of Computing and Information Systems in the Melbourne School of Engineering. His research explores decision making in Accounting and Information Systems across a diverse range of contexts including analytics, business intelligence, ethics, risk management, IT Value, performance management and financial reporting. For over 25 years, both in Australia and overseas (New York University, University of Minnesota), he has conducted industry engaged research funded by both the corporate sector and Australian Research Council grants. Michael’s work appears in leading journals in both information Systems and accounting as well as practitioner outlets.
With teaching experience across both accounting and information systems at all levels (undergraduate, MBA/Masters, PhD and executive), Michael has received numerous grants for his teaching innovation and has been recognised for his industry-linked teaching initiatives with a Vice Chancellor’s Knowledge Transfer Excellence Award.
In addition to industry experience with PwC and Rio Tinto and scholarly work with the likes of National Australia Bank, EY, CPA Australia, PETRONAS, Microsoft and others, Michael serves on the board of several private sector and non-profit entities.
