[keynote] Prof. Eduard Hovy: NLP
The Doctoral Colloquium program began with two keynote speeches. The first keynote was given by Professor Ed Hovy. Ed Hovy is the executive director of Melbourne Connect as well as a Research Professor at the Language Technologies Institute at Carnegie Mellon University. The talk provided an overview of the NLPs, where they have come from and where they are going, to contextualise the importance of ensuring technologies adapt to human needs and concerns.
[keynote] Timothy Kariotis: Communicating information
The second keynote was given by Timothy Kariotis. Timothy Kariotis is Assistant Director for Usability in the Department of Employment and Workplace Relations, PhD Candidate in Digital Health at the School of Computing and Information System, and Lecturer in Digital Government at Melbourne School of Government. His talk used a history lens to examine information, mental health services, and also communicating information from a research perspective.
